Garlana H. Mathews is the founder of Select Marketing Services, Inc., established in 2004, and Workplace Health magazine, launched in 2012. With over 20 years of experience in the Workers’ Compensation sector, her professional expertise encompasses claims adjusting, billing, collections, and managed care. Recognizing a critical need for specialized education among healthcare providers, Ms. Mathews created the SelectOne Network to assist physicians and administrative staff in mastering Workers’ Compensation best practices.
Beyond her professional leadership, Ms. Mathews maintains a deep commitment to community service. She is an active member of the Lions Club and serves on the Executive Boards of the Georgia Safety, Health, & Environmental Annual Conference and the Savannah Technical College—Business Management Advisory Committee. Additionally, she served as Director for the Georgia Workers’ Compensation Association from 2019 through early 2026.
One of her most significant contributions to the Savannah community is her role as the creator and event chair of The Ballroom Extravaganza. Since 2008, this premier red-carpet competition has raised more than $500,000 for local charities. In recognition of her community impact, she was honored with the 2012 Community Star award from the Savannah Area Technical College Foundation Community Council.
Originally from Uvalda, Georgia, Ms. Mathews has been a resident of Savannah since 1991. She and her husband, Patrick, have three children. Her personal interests include ballroom dancing, photography, antiquing and family fishing excursions.
